CASTLE Cary, with its beautiful golden stone, is one of Somerset’s prettiest towns, and the Market House, one of its jewels, is the setting for an Apple Day celebration on Sunday 22nd October from 11am to 3pm.
Organised by cook and food writer Lucas Hollweg and his partner Lucie Reader, there will be stalls offering cider and apple juice from some of the area’s best known producers, including Burrow Hill, Southdown, King Brain, Stones, Dowdings and micro-producer Harry Darby.
There will, of course, also be cheese – from White Lake and Feltham’s (makers of Renegade Monk among others), – as well Somerset charcuterie, Somerset Membrillo, Black Bee honey, pork and apple based street food from Thoroughly Wild Meat, and veggie things from Sunflower Kitchen, live music, apple games and pumpkin carving for kids.
And Lucas and Lucie will be serving their delicious apple fritters, with Brickell’s cinnamon ice cream.
It will be “all very laid back,” says Lucas.
