ONE of Bristol’s most atmospheric locations is the setting for a production of one of Edgar Allen Poe’s classic macabre stories. Red Rope Theatre will be performing The Fall of the House of Usher, in the Anglican chapel at Arnos Vale Cemetery, from 14th November to 6th December.
It is a dark tale full of violence, horror and the supernatural, and Red Rope will make the most of the venue with sound effects, strobe lights and scares sure to have the audience nearly jump out of their seats.
The company has previously enjoyed success at Arnos Vale with productions including Dracula, Turn of the Screw, Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, A Christmas Carol and Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles.
The Fall of the House of Usher is set in the decrepit mansion of the Ushers. A lone traveller visits his estranged childhood friend, Roderick Usher, after receiving a letter asking for his help. Roderick and his twin sister Madeline live alone in a haunting and strange house, cursed by a mysterious sickness.
You are invited for “a night of madness, horror, isolation and familial secrets” in this adaptation by Matthew Grinter.
Bristol-based Red Rope Theatre was formed in 2012, dedicated to bringing celebrated plays and playwrights to a wider audience. Regular venues include Ashton Court Mansion and Arnos Vale Cemetery. For more information visit www.redropetheatre.com
