ON Friday 22nd November composer Jenny Bliss will be at Wells Cathedral with a programme of baroque and contemporary works for St Cecilia’s Day.
Her new compositions, Let there be light and O Cecilia, will be performed by some of the best known players on the baroque music scene, including Joanna Lawrence from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and virtuoso flute and recorder player Daniel Swani. The audience will also hear music by harpsichordist and keyboard player Ben Comaeu, including some of his newly-written pieces in microtonal scales, accompanied by the synth and electronics of William Kraemer.
The programme also features sonatas by Biber and improvisations on Purcell’s O Cecilia.
Jenny Bliss’s music has been described as “an entirely new genre somewhere between Steve Reich, Bjork and Vivaldi with the ephemeral dark-whimsy of Elizabeth Fraser. Hear it for yourself in the beautful setting of Wells Cathedral.
