HOT on the heels of the Swan Theatre’s own mystery horror, Civic Players will be performing The Murder Room as their pre-Christmas offering at the Yeovil theatre from 4th to 7th December.
Described as a hilarious murder mystery spoof, Jack Sharkey’s The Murder Room was scheduled for production in 2020, when COVID restrictions shut down theatres across the country. Rehearsals were two-thirds completed. Now, says director Andy Meadows, we can complete unfinished business.
The Murder Room is the story of Mavis Hollister, who has tired of her marriage to Edgar and decided to kill him, so that she can get his money and run off with her lover. But she has reckoned without the strangely familiar Constable Howard, her step-daughter’s fiance, a secret room … and of course, a dead cat.
The cast includes Vikki Whitchurch as Mavis, with Colin Frances as Edgar, Lucy-Ella Robinson as Lottie, Rich Walters as Inspector Crandall, Sarah Westaway as Susan Hollister and Adam Holland as Barry Draper.
Look out for labyrinthine twists and turns of the plot, but when murder is this funny, who cares?
Civic vice-chairman Rich Walters is delighted that the production has been revived. “I was in the original cast and we were all sad when we had to cancel. It’s such a cleverly written piece – like Agatha Christie meets Airplane!”
Performances start at 7.45pm each night. For more details, visit the website, www.civicplayersyeovil.com or call the box office.
